Former Arsenal attacker Andrei Arshavin is plying his trade in Kazakhstan obscurity as his career nears its end, though the Russian appears to be enjoying himself doing so.

Arshavin, 35, is in his first season with FC Kairat, and while expectations were low, local football writer Peter Volikova vowed to shave his head if Arshavin bagged seven or more goals this season. Arshavin is now sitting on eight goals, and true to his word, a gloomy Volikova had his locks shaved by Arshavin at an Almaty shopping centre as the pint-sized Russian displayed his trademark grin.
