Ilkay Gundogan has been rewarded for his impressive return from a knee injury at new club Manchester City with a selection to the Germany national team.

It ends a 330-day absence for the box-to-box midfielder, and he links up with a squad that also sees Jerome Boateng, Mario Gomez, and Sebastian Rudy return to the fold.

Emre Can and Niklas Sule both miss out, in exclusions likely linked to their recent spells on the sidelines, while Bayer Leverkusen's 20-year-old defender Jonathan Tah makes way for more experienced international stars.

Joachim Low will oversee Die Mannschaft in World Cup qualifying tilts against Czech Republic on Oct. 8 in Hamburg, and Northern Ireland three days later in Hanover. Germany began Group C commitments with a comprehensive 3-0 win in Norway on Sept. 4.

Here's the squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona)

Defenders: Shkodran Mustafi (Arsenal), Jonas Hector (FC Koln), Benedikt Howedes (Schalke 04), Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich), Sebastian Rudy (Hoffenheim), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich)

Midfielders/Forwards: Sami Khedira (Juventus), Julian Draxler (VfL Wolfsburg), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich), Julian Weigl (Borussia Dortmund), Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen), Max Meyer (Schalke 04), Mario Gotze (Borussia Dortmund), Kevin Volland (Bayer Leverkusen), Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City), Mario Gomez (VfL Wolfsburg)
