Premier League team of the weekend: Pogback?

Darren Staples / Reuters

After another weekend of some great individual performances, theScore puts together a best XI from the latest slate of Premier League fixtures.

The lineup

GK - Petr Cech

It wasn't a stellar week for goalkeeping, but Cech kept up an incredible level of concentration and organised his ranks superbly in the 3-0 defeat of his former club Chelsea. The susceptibility to low drives at his near post from last season is hopefully a thing of the past for Arsenal's shot-stopper.

RB - Hector Bellerin

My word, that Bellerin has a motor. Arsenal's speed merchant made some timely tackles - none more important than when he hounded down Pedro to prevent a one-on-one with Cech - and showed an attacking prowess that has earned him admiring glances from Barcelona, where he spent his formative years.

CB - Laurent Koscielny

Arguably the most gifted defender in the league is forming a promising understanding with Shkodran Mustafi, and continually anticipated Diego Costa's bustling in Saturday's tilt. Koscielny made four interceptions and seven clearances - a game-high in each category.

CB - Virgil van Dijk

The work from Southampton full-backs Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand was instrumental in Sunday's 3-0 win at West Ham United, but Van Dijk was the defensive rock once again. He's comfortable in possession but gets rid of the ball when necessary, as his 16 clearances (the same as West Ham's back four collectively) prove.

LB - Daley Blind

Jose Mourinho deployed Chris Smalling at centre-half to combat Islam Slimani's aerial ability, but Blind kept a spot in the XI at left-back - where he was superb in the 4-1 trouncing of Leicester. Two assists came from the Dutchman, and his four tackles were unmatched elsewhere in the match.

DM - Paul Pogba

Without Wayne Rooney slowly going about his business ahead of him, and Ander Herrera alongside him rather than Marouane Fellaini, Pogba was liberated. His craft and clout were evident throughout, and he bagged his first goal in red.

DM - Harry Arter

Considering Arter was tasked with a defence-first job in the midfield, it was somewhat surprising that no one matched his five pings on goal. It was his five tackles in Saturday's 1-0 win over Everton that were most precious, though, for one of Bournemouth's most consistent performers.

RW - Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho can frustrate and dazzle in equal amounts, but, when afforded space, he can run riot. He already had an assist to his name before the dismissal of Hull City's Ahmed Elmohamady, but then took centre stage for the rest of the bout. His dipping 25-yard drive was unstoppable.

AM - Mesut Ozil

By his standards, Ozil had a relatively slow start to the campaign until Chelsea came to visit. The German exploited the area vacated by the overworked N'Golo Kante and showed his impeccable vision in the 3-0 win. His neat interplay with Alex Iwobi began the move that ended with Theo Walcott's tap-in.

LW - Heung-Min Son

Harry who? Son ensured Tottenham Hotspur didn't miss the injured Kane in Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough, bagging a brace to match last season's four goals and one assist in just three appearances. His second showed how difficult he can be to knock off the ball when he's in his stride, before unleashing a devastating hit.

FW - Charlie Austin

No player had less touches than Austin on Sunday - but that's no damning indictment of the former non-league player. The Saints' system of three disciplined midfielders and two rapid wingers meant Austin would get limited opportunities to convert. But he took them: one goal from Southampton's first shot on target and an assist; his smart running also pulled the Hammers' defence out of shape time and time again.
