Kompany suffers groin injury setback

Manchester City confirmed Friday that defender Vincent Kompany has suffered yet another injury setback, picking up a groin injury on Wednesday against Swansea in his first start since May.

As a result, Kompany will undergo treatment once more and will not be available for Saturday's return to Liberty Stadium for a league fixture against Swansea, just a few days after City defeated the Swans 2-1 in the League Cup.

Kompany had just recovered from a variety of injuries that had kept him out of the City team for 140 days.

The club did not give a date for his next return, but did confirm that the injury was not a recurrence of an old injury.

Before Wednesday, the 30-year-old Belgium central defender last featured for City in a Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid, playing just nine minutes before being forced off with injury.

And while Kompany's return to the playing field ended with him hobbling off down the tunnel once more, manager Pep Guardiola is hopeful of a quick recovery after being impressed with his play.

"(His performance) was good. It's not easy after a long, long time without playing," Guardiola said. "Defensively, he was so strong - he played really good.

"Once they scored the goal, after I said: 'What happened?' They said that Vincent had gone to the locker room. Hopefully, it will not be a big problem. We will have to wait."
