Mourinho once allegedly threatened to 'break' Wenger's face

Back in February 2014, Jose Mourinho couldn't hide his anger with long-time adversary Arsene Wenger, as quotes from an upcoming biography reveal threats to give the Arsenal manager a physical beating.

The alleged incident occurred following a particularly tense few months between the gaffers.

Mourinho had just returned for a second stint with Chelsea, and the war of words with his nemesis had reignited.

Wenger stoked an argument during a press conference in which he accused Mourinho of a "fear to fail." It was too big of an indictment for the Portuguese to ignore, having already brushed off the Frenchman's digs at Chelsea's plan to sell Juan Mata to a rival like Manchester United.

"You know, he is a specialist in failure," Mourinho snapped back. "Eight years without a piece of silverware, that's failure. If I do that at Chelsea I leave London and I don't come back."

Following the public fallout, Mourinho went even further in private conversation with Daily Mail reporter Rob Beasley.

"When Mr. Wenger criticises CFC and Man United over the deal with Mata ... I will find him one day outside a football pitch and I will break his face," Mourinho allegedly told Beasley, as revealed in his new book, "Jose Mourinho: Up Close and Personal."

The two met again on March 22, 2014, and it was Mourinho who exacted revenge on the field. Chelsea decimated Arsenal 6-0 at Stamford Bridge, prompting Wenger to duck out of post-match press duties.

They almost came to blows on the touchline later that October - a match Chelsea won 2-0 - but the lasting memory was the sight of fourth official Jon Moss separating Mourinho and Wenger as they barked at each other.

"He was asking for a red card and pressing the ref in my technical area. I told him to go back to his area. He pushed me," Mourinho told Beasley. "I told him, 'Here you do that, you know I can't react, but I will meet you one day in the street.'"

Presented with the quotes during Friday's conference with reporters, Wenger wouldn't be goaded into a response to the new claims.

"Look, I haven't read the book and I certainly won't read it," he said. "I cannot comment on that. I talk about football and that's all I do.

"I'm not in a destructive mode, ever. I'm more constructive and I cannot comment on that because I'm focused on tomorrow's game and how we want to play football."

Arsenal will pay Mourinho and his United side a visit at Old Trafford on Nov. 19.
