Ramsey could miss Wales qualifiers due to injury; Wenger concerned

The only guarantee regarding Aaron Ramsey's injury status is that the Welsh midfielder will not feature for Arsenal against Chelsea this weekend.

Beyond Saturday's match, neither Arsenal or Wales can pinpoint when the midfielder, who recently returned to training but is not match fit, will return from a nagging hamstring injury.

Ramsey was expected to make a return at the beginning of September following the international break. However, his failure to regain fitness has left manager Arsene Wenger worried about his prolonged absence.

"There is concern because he has been out for so much time," Wenger told BBC Wales, according to Wales Online.

"It's extremely disappointing after the magnificent tournament Aaron had at the Euros that he picked up an injury in the opening game of the season.

"It's a huge disappointment for him and for of us. But let's just hope the situation improves for him over the next week or so."

The injury has also put his availability for Wales' upcoming World Cup qualifiers in jeopardy. Wales assistant Osian Roberts echoed Wenger's concern, but says he still holds out hope Ramsey will recover in time for matches against Austria and Georgia in two weeks.

"There is concern because he has been out for so long," Roberts told BBC Wales.

"It's a huge disappointment for him and for all of us. But let's just hope the situation improves for him over the next week or so."

Ramsey appeared to be on the verge of a successful year following his impressive performance at the Euros with Wales until injuring his hamstring in the opening match of the Premier League season in Arsenal's loss to Liverpool.
