Griezmann alerts Chelsea, Manchester United after ditching agent

Antoine Griezmann has decided to go it alone.

The Atletico Madrid striker announced that he's cut ties with player agency Grupo Santos, leaving the 25-year-old to represent himself in contractual matters, general secretarial duties, and - perhaps most tellingly - in transfer dealings.

The Frenchman, who top-scored for his country at Euro 2016 with six goals, has alerted potential suitors Chelsea and Manchester United due to his change in circumstances, according to The Telegraph's Callum Davis.

"From now I'm going to operate without an agent," Griezmann told L'Equipe, with translation from The Telegraph.

"But I will always have the advice of my father (Alain) and also my mentor, Eric Olhats."

Griezmann's association with Olhats began when he was 13, earning his stripes playing for the youth teams of Montpellier. His "mentor" helped him settle for Real Sociedad soon thereafter, and in 2014 he moved on to Atletico Madrid where he's continued to flourish.

The 25-year-old reportedly rejected numerous approaches from leading clubs this summer, but now that he's acting as his own agent, teams are likely to be encouraged to meet his €100-million release clause, or try to tempt Atleti with an offer under that valuation.

Griezmann's future in the Spanish capital has become even more tentative with the news that Diego Simeone, the manager under whom he's thrived for Los Rojiblancos, is set to leave in 2018 or perhaps sooner.

Griezmann, now partnered with compatriot Kevin Gameiro in attack at club level, has two goals over two league appearances so far in 2016-17, and matches up against Sporting Gijon at the Santiago Calderon Stadium this Saturday.
