Aguero pulls out of Argentina squad with calf injury

Sergio Aguero has been forced out of Argentina's squad for the upcoming slate of World Cup qualifiers, with the country's football association (AFA) announcing Monday that the prolific Manchester City striker is dealing with a calf issue.

Aguero, 28, sustained the ailment in Sunday's 3-1 victory over West Ham.

"For this reason he will not be present for this double round of qualifiers with the national team," the AFA confirmed in a brief statement.

The Albiceleste, sitting third in CONMEBOL qualifying after six matches, will host Uruguay on Sept. 2, before travelling to Venezuela on Sept. 7.

The oft-injured forward, who is off to a blistering start with six goals in four matches (in all competitions) this season, could be facing a lengthy absence even after he returns from the injury.

Aguero appeared to throw an elbow at West Ham defender Winston Reid in Sunday's match, and as it was not caught by the referee, the Football Association (FA) is expected to review the incident, which could lead to a ban for City's superstar.
