Report: Terry focusing on Chelsea career instead of returning to national team

England manager Sam Allardyce can forget about asking John Terry to come out of international retirement.

The centre-back reportedly intends to focus on his Chelsea career rather than link-up with the English national team for the country's upcoming World Cup qualifying fixture, according to Matt Law of the Telegraph.

On Monday, Allardyce suggested he would give Terry a call to gauge the former England captain's interest in rejoining the Three Lions ahead of the team's encounter with Slovakia on Sept. 4.

However, Terry has reportedly decided to reject an invitation in favour of proving to new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte that he's worthy of a place on the starting team, and possibly another contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge beyond the 2016-17 campaign.

Terry has not appeared in an England strip since 2012 when he announced his international retirement following a dispute with the Football Association.

The 35-year-old ended ties with the team after the FA pursued charges and suspended him for four matches when he, allegedly, racially abused former Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

Allardyce is expected to name his squad for the Slovakia match on Sunday.
