If Saido Berahino can't get a move this summer, he will do so on his own terms next year.

The restless West Brom striker is prepared to see out the final year of his contract with the Premier League club before leaving on a free transfer, according to ESPN FC's Peter O'Rourke.

The 22-year-old has reportedly turned down a new four-year deal from the Baggies in order to pursue new options. Playing its own game of hardball, West Brom rejected £20-million bids from both Crystal Palace and Stoke City in recent weeks.

This is the second consecutive summer in which Berahino has become the subject of vigorous transfer rumours. Tottenham famously tempted Berahino with several offers, and the player even submitted his own transfer request.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace now faces the very real possibility of watching a homegrown player leave for nothing. The development could force Peace to reconsider bids - if they arrive again before the Aug. 31 deadline.

It would mark a bitter end to a long stay in the West Midlands. Berahino joined West Brom's youth team as an 11-year-old, and apart from brief loan spells at Northampton Town, Brentford, and Peterborough, it's the only club he has known.

Berahino's hoping to rediscover his form after an unsettling Premier League campaign. Unable to shake off the lure of Tottenham, he managed just four league goals last season.

Pearce criticised the north London outfit for distracting Berahino, who missed two of West Brom's first four Premier League games as a result of the transfer saga.
