Gunn wants to challenge for starting role at City

Angus Gunn wants to make an impression on new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to allow him to challenge England international Joe Hart's job donning the gloves.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper clearly outshone his aged shot-stopping counterpart Willy Caballero on Thursday, being introduced in the second half before saving three spot kicks in a penalty-shootout defeat of Borussia Dortmund.

Considering Caballero's horrific distribution on display in the opening stanza, Gunn hopes to vault to No. 2 in Guardiola's goalkeeping considerations.

"This trip has been unbelievable for me, with Joe being away at the Euros and coming back late it's given me an opportunity and hopefully I'll be able to show the manager what I can do," said Gunn.

"We've still got one, possibly two games left of preseason so hopefully I'll get another chance and see what happens."

Gunn, the son of former Norwich City netminder Bryan Gunn, should avoid additional competition if Geronimo Rulli joins. The Argentinian is rumoured to be loaned straight to Real Sociedad should he move to Manchester.

But City's youngster is not keen on a temporary spell for himself, and wants to remain working under Guardiola.

"That'll be the perfect scenario, but things in football aren't always like that so we'll see how it goes over the next two weeks," he added.

The next date in the club's preseason preparations come on Aug. 7 against Arsenal in Gothenburg.
