Andy Reid hangs up boots after injury woes
Andy Reid has stepped away from his playing career aged 34, beginning and ending his trade with Nottingham Forest.
The busy midfielder won 29 caps for Ireland, but never represented his homeland at a major tournament. He played in the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur, Charlton Athletic, Sunderland, and Blackpool.
Forest head coach Philippe Montanier paid tribute to Reid in a press conference on Friday:
Despite the high regard Reid is held in at the City Ground, the Dubliner has received no assurances of a coaching role with the club.
I know Reid was a really good player for Forest," continued Montanier.
"For me, all is okay with my medical and technical staff and I am very satisfied during preseason. I don't need more staff."
Reid joined the coaching staff last term as he made one last bid to regain fitness, but failed to overcome repeated issues meaning his last appearance came against Derby County in October 2014.
