Report: Schweinsteiger misses Manchester United training as exit nears

Bastian Schweinsteiger is ever closer to the Old Trafford exit following his conspicuous absence from Manchester United's training session Thursday.

Schweinsteiger is one of nine United players who could leave before the end of the transfer window on Aug. 31 - either on loan or on a permanent deal. The Germany international played an important role at Euro 2016 as his country's captain, but he's not considered a part of Jose Mourinho's plans, according to the Guardian's Andy Hunter.

Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbahce have both been linked with a move for the 31-year-old midfielder, who made just 13 Premier League starts last season as he struggled with injuries. United's apparently keen to offload the player's £160,000-per-week wages.

Schweinsteiger has been on his honeymoon after his marriage to tennis player Ana Ivanovic.

Joining Schweinsteiger on the outskirts are said to be: Adnan Januzaj, Paddy McNair, Andreas Pereira, Axel Tuanzebe, Will Keane, Tyler Blackett, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Fosu-Mensah and Borthwick-Jackson are currently injured, while Mourinho could send out the likes of Blackett, Januzaj, and Pereira on loan.

The Daily Mail's Joe Bernstein also understands the Portuguese manager met with each of the nine players individually to discuss their future, or lack thereof. Mourinho's looking to whittle down his squad to just 24.

United will face Leicester City in the Community Shield on Aug. 7, and open the Premier League campaign away to Bournemouth a week later.
