Liverpool's Grujic hospitalised with head injury

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed concern after Marko Grujic was sent to hospital due to a head injury suffered in Wednesday's friendly against Chelsea.

The Serbian midfielder suffered the issue in a collision with Bertrand Traore just before the end of the opening stanza, and was withdrawn at the break to allow treatment.

"The biggest problem for me in this moment is that Marko Grujic is in hospital, because he can't remember anything. That's not too cool," Klopp shared post-match.

"Hopefully it's not too serious but of course a young boy in this situation is not too cool. Injuries after games like this in preseason is the biggest problem obviously."

Meanwhile, new defender Ragnar Klavan didn't have any lasting issues from Cesc Fabregas' wild tackle, which ended in a dismissal for the Spanish midfielder. Fellow centre-back Joel Matip sat out the tie with an ankle ailment, but Klopp expects him to rejoin preparations for the 2016-17 term soon.

"I expect him to start the season," continued Klopp. "But for this, he has to train a little bit more. The first two-and-a-half weeks were really good, he became better and better and then he was out.

"Now I think it is a week or more he has been out. He was in a training group today and hopefully he can be back in team training as soon as possible. The season start at this moment is not in doubt."

The Reds kick off their Premier League campaign at Arsenal on Aug. 14.
