Klopp confirms Sakho's dismissal was due to breach of team rules

Mamadou Sakho was banished from Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States for breaking team rules, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed ahead of his team's pre-season clash with Chelsea on Wednesday.

The German gaffer also revealed that he plans to hold talks with Sakho next week over his behaviour after the defender breached numerous team regulations set out by the team.

He was subsequently sent back to England, but Klopp did not disclose whether he will be fined.

"He nearly missed the departure of Liverpool (on the plane from Liverpool to San Francisco), he missed a training session and was late for a team meal," Klopp told reporters.

"I have to build a group here and we've got to start new here. I thought it maybe made sense for him to fly home to Liverpool.

"We have some rules and we have to respect them - if somebody gives me the feeling they are not respecting it I have to react."

Klopp added that he did not argue with the French defender, describing his chat as a one-way conversation while Sakho listened to reasons for his dismissal.

His discharge from the team could also see Sakho miss friendlies against AC Milan and Barcelona.
