Rooney targetting 2nd career as manager

England's top scorer, Manchester United's captain, and a Premier League and Champions League winner, Wayne Rooney is looking to add more to his resume once his playing days are over.

The 30-year-old is already preparing for a second career in football, revealing to reporters Sunday that he's in the middle of earning his coaching badges.

"I would like to be manager when I finish playing," Rooney said. "Football is what I've done my whole life. I'm currently in the process of taking my coaching badges so hopefully when I finish playing I'll have that complete."

Rooney has dealt with some of the game's biggest managers, with Jose Mourinho joining that list this summer. He had his quarrels with Sir Alex Ferguson, to the point where Rooney had thought about leaving United. But unlike Roy Keane and David Beckham - whose relationships with the Scottish gaffer reached similar boiling points - Rooney outlasted Ferguson at Old Trafford.

He suffered under Louis van Gaal as well, and reportedly approached him about problems in the dressing room.

Rooney's emerged as a leader for both club and country, and his next experience is with Mourinho, who has admired Rooney for years. The Portuguese manager tried to bring the Liverpool native to Stamford Bridge during his second tenure there, but the move never happened.

Rooney's currently in China with the rest of his United teammates for their preseason tour, and they will face Manchester City in Beijing on Monday.

Just four goals behind Sir Bobby Charlton's 249 strikes, Rooney is also looking forward to another record-breaking season.

"It will be the same as the England record. It will be a huge honour to become record scorer at this club," he said last week. "I have no doubt it will happen this season. It will be a huge moment for me."
