Chinese Manchester Derby jeopardised by Beijing flood

Monday's preseason Manchester Derby in China is under threat of cancellation due to flooding in the capital Beijing.

New managers Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho were set to lock horns at the Bird's Nest Stadium in a tilt between Manchester City and rival United, though severe weather in China could potentially nix the high-profile tilt, according to ESPN FC.

"It's a concern," International Champions Cup China spokesman Ben Xiaozheng said. "The weather has been really bad. But we're hopeful the game will go ahead."

United spokesman Phil Townsend added, "We are aware of the bad weather in Beijing, but also that the organisers are working very hard on getting the game to go ahead."

The heaviest rain in Beijing in 60 years has left the city in a state of emergency after summer storms have crippled much of China. This storm comes on the heels of the 2012 flash flood that saw 79 people die and another 57,000 people evacuated in a state-declared disaster that caused at least 10 billion Yuan in damages.
