Ahead of a return to Premier League football after a seven-year hiatus in the second tier, Middlesbrough is reportedly keen to sign Aston Villa and U.S. international shot-stopper Brad Guzan.

Pierluigi Gollini's arrival at Villa Park from Hellas Verona has sparked speculation that Guzan, 31, could be on his way, and it would appear as if Aitor Karanka and co. are compelled to add a second veteran 'keeper during the summer window, according to Peter O'Rourke of ESPN FC.

Coming off a less than desirable campaign with bottom dwellers Villa, Guzan would make the switch to the Riverside Stadium to provide direct competition for the club's other summer move Victor Valdes, who moved to Boro on a free transfer from Manchester United.

With one year left on his deal with the relegated Birmingham outfit, reports suggest Villa would be willing to let Guzan leave on a free transfer to encourage his departure, with incoming gaffer Roberto Di Matteo looking to put his imprint on the club.

The move for Valdes and rumoured swoop for Guzan would spell the end of the line for 'keeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulous.

The once-capped Greek international started all 46 of Boro's Championship tilts last year, and set a club record with 22 clean sheets while leading the division with 89 percent save percentage. His contract with the North Yorkshire lot expired at the end of June.
