Chris Coleman describes Daniel Sturridge's goal as 'gut-wrenching'

Chris Coleman might need to lean on Ian Mitchell, Wales' sports psychologist.

Speaking after Wales suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to England at Euro 2016 in which Daniel Sturridge toe-poked the ball past Wayne Hennessey in the 92nd minute, Coleman couldn't hide his disappointment at the result. The Welsh manager referred to the goal as "gut-wrenching for the players and our supporters" and admitted that the occasion was one of the most agonising of his career.

"When you come that close, and then lose it in the dying seconds ... Look, we're gutted," Coleman said, according to Dominic Fifield of the Guardian. "Absolutely devastated. But, at times like this, you have to show a little bit of mettle, a bit of steel, and bounce back."

Coleman also spoke of the need to not panic, saying: "We have to get it out of our system. That disappointment is there, but we can't take it into the next game. If you'd said to us we'd get through to the knockout with a result in the last game, we'd have accepted that. But it was a bitter pill to swallow, this, after being 1-0 up.

"But, look, England got over it, conceding in the last minute against Russia, and showed good courage to recover. We have to put it to bed and get ready for Russia, just like they did against us. Whichever team that puts the disappointment behind them from this middle round of fixtures will prevail. And it's still down to us."

Wales will meet Russia on Monday, and a point will probably be enough for the Dragons to qualify for Euro 2016's Round of 16.
