Report: Sakho faces no further ban for doping violation, may play in Euro 2016
Mamadou Sakho is reportedly free to play.
On Saturday, Sakho's provisional suspension for an anti-doping rule violation expired, and according to L'Equipe, the French centre-back is free to resume his activities as a professional football player and will be officially cleared of any wrongdoing in "the coming days."
After UEFA provisionally suspended Sakho for 30 days due to a failed drug test, FIFA extended the sanction, provisionally suspending Sakho worldwide for 30 days as of April 28, and ruling him out of the Europa League final which saw Liverpool fall 3-1 to Sevilla at St. Jakob-Park.
L'Equipe reports that Sakho's lawyers had argued that an ingested fat-burner was not on the list of banned substances, meaning their client wasn't guilty of doping.
Sakho was omitted from France's national team ahead of Euro 2016, but Didier Deschamps can make changes to his squad until May 31. Les Bleus are short on centre-backs going into the competition, as Raphael Varane suffered a thigh injury while Kurt Zouma picked up an ailment to his anterior cruciate ligament.
