Report: Sturridge misses England training ahead of Friday's friendly

Liverpool's oft-injured striker Daniel Sturridge was absent from England training on Wednesday ahead of Friday's friendly against Australia.

Neither coach Roy Hodgson nor the Football Association commented on Sturridge's situation, though John Cross of The Mirror confirms that the 26-year-old Manchester City academy product was not present in advance of Friday's Euro 2016 tune-up.

With Leicester City star Jamie Vardy's wedding ruling him out as well, Sturridge's absence could see Manchester United's teenage striker Marcus Rashford handed his senior-team debut.

Sturridge and Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill were not with the Three Lions Wednesday, with the latter still out after suffering a 'minor knock' in the final Premier League match of the year against Leicester.

The 17-time capped forward has been hampered by various injuries since joining Liverpool in 2013 from Chelsea. This season, Sturridge missed 17 matches with a build up of fluid in his knee and a recurring hamstring concern. A hip injury saw him also miss the majority of the 2014-15 season.

Should Sturridge miss Friday's friendly at the Stadium of Light, Hodgson will have only Tottenham's Harry Kane and Rashford among four forwards shortlisted to also take part in this summer's tournament.
