Report: Arsenal renews interest in Argentine teen Maxi Romero
Ahead of the what should amount to a busy summer transfer window for the north London side, Arsenal has reportedly renewed its interest in 17-year-old Velez Sarsfield striker Maxi Romero.
Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger had agreed to a £4.5-million deal to sign the teenage talent a year ago, only for Romero to suffer knee-ligament damage. Healthy again, Arsenal has pegged the Argentine as a transfer target, according to a report from John Cross of the Mirror.
Romero has appeared in 11 matches in the Primera Division with Sarsfield this season, scoring three goals for the Buenos Aires side after making his first-team debut against Sarmiento in February.
The local boy then scored his first goal five days later against Olimpo. Striking just six minutes after coming on, thanks to a kind deflection and a gaffe from shot-stopper Nereo Champagne.
The Premier League summer transfer window opens July 1.
