Mesut Ozil hopes 'stronger players' arrive at Arsenal this summer

Arsenal's playmaker extraordinaire Mesut Ozil is looking forward to the summer transfer window.

Don't worry, Gooners. It's not because he's excited about potential suitors.

The Premier League assist king is hoping his side can secure the signatures of some marquee talent once the window swings open, claiming that will be the added boost needed to ensure this season's disappointment isn't replicated in 2016-17.

"It's a long season and a lot of things must go right in the season. One of the things is players getting injured, which is one factor definitely," Ozil said in a wide-ranging interview with Alex Rea of Sport360. "On the other hand we just have to focus more and with stronger players maybe coming in be competitive for next season and we will see where we end up at the end."

The club has been heavily linked with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka in recent weeks, and with Danny Welbeck shelved for nine months with a knee injury, attacking reinforcement is expected at the Emirates as well.

Arsenal, who finished 10 points adrift of Leicester City at the top of the table, faltered in the latter part of the campaign, something that, in theory, could be rectified with a deeper, more talented roster that can withstand the wear-and-tear of a lengthy season involving multiple competitions.
