Ozil falls 1 assist short of tying Premier League record

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil was chasing history throughout the 2015-16 Premier League season, the mark of former Gunners legend Thierry Henry awaiting him at the 20-assist finish line.

In the end, Ozil came close, but fell just one assist short of Henry's mark, unable to tie the single-season record that was set over a decade ago in 2002-03.

He did have his chances, but dried up down the last stretch of the season, failing to record an assist in the last 10 matches leading up to a final day fixture against Aston Villa.

The German found Olivier Giroud just the one time in an eventual 4-0 win over the already-relegated Villans, but could not record the elusive 20th assist.

Still, on this, an unexpected St. Totteringham's Day, Ozil did manage to record his 19th assist, propelling him above Angel Di Maria (18), Lionel Messi (16), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (15), Christian Eriksen (13), and Paul Pogba (12) across Europe.

It is a well-deserved silver lining from which the German star can find some solace.

His creative influence cannot be dismissed:
