Report: Mourinho expects to be contacted if Manchester United misses Champions League

Jose Mourinho will reportedly be expecting a phone call if Manchester United misses out on the Premier League's top four.

According to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian, Mourinho expects to be formally approached by United should the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League, as the club is indicating to the Portuguese manager's advisers that nothing concrete can occur until its fate is determined pertaining to European football.

The report marks a stark contrast to Louis van Gaal's assessment of who will be United's manager next season. The Dutch tactician, speaking ahead of the Red Devils' 1-1 draw versus Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, made it clear that he expects to see out his contract, saying: "I have signed for three years so next year you see me again!"

Mourinho, unemployed since he parted company with Chelsea in December by "mutual consent," is apparently in conversation with several other clubs over his future, including Paris Saint-Germain, and there is allegedly no consensus among United's executives over the managerial situation at the Theatre of Dreams.
