Plane flies over Everton match with banner demanding Martinez exit
How things fared on the pitch were secondary to many attending Goodison Park on Saturday, as a large proportion of Everton fans expressed their displeasure at the management of incumbent gaffer Roberto Martinez.
A plane was greeted with applause as it flew over the stadium just before half-time in the visit of Bournemouth, displaying a banner with the words: "TIME TO GO ROBERTO NSNO."
"NSNO" is an abbreviation of the club's Latin motto, "Nil satis nisi optimum," which can be seen at the bottom of its badge. It translates to "Nothing but the best is good enough."
Merseyside Police had sent out warnings earlier on the day after plans of a protest against Martinez had gathered momentum on social media over the days leading up to the game.
Ahead of hosting the Cherries, Everton had mustered just 17 points over 17 home matches, a second-worst record to Championship-bound Aston Villa.
Words from fan favourite Leighton Baines earlier in the month suggested that there was a lack of chemistry in the Toffees' squad, something that turned up the volume of the boo boys on Merseyside. Martinez boasts the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley in his ranks, but Everton's season is dwindling down to mid-table obscurity.
If reports from The Telegraph's Matt Law are to be believed, Martinez could be relieved of his Everton duties as soon as next week.
