Forster staying focused on Southampton amid Chelsea interest

Fraser Forster admitted that he is pleased to learn about Chelsea's reported interest in him, but his focus remains with Southampton and producing a positive finish to the season.

The England international is treating the transfer rumour as a response to his positive performances between the pipes since returning from a serious knee injury in January.

"I think it is a compliment in many ways because if you are being linked with teams then you are obviously doing the right things," Forster told Chris MacRae of Sky Sports.

"I have two years left on my contract at Southampton and I have loved my time here. I can't thank the club enough for the way they have stood by me when I was injured.

"I'm just concentrating on the day-to-day business here at the club and then hopefully I can have a good summer with England.

Chelsea currently employs Thibaut Courtois in net, but the defending Premier League champions may look to overhaul the squad following its bitterly disappointing season.

Forster is expected to be included in Roy Hodgson's national team ahead of the European Championship in France this summer after putting together several impressive performances since returning from a nine-month layoff with a damaged patellar tendon.

However, a starting role with England is unlikely considering the job is Joe Hart's to lose.

"Everyone knows that Joe is the No. 1 and he deserves that. He is a top keeper but that's the challenge for the rest of us: to push him as hard as we can and try and put pressure on him.

"That has got to be the goal for me, to keep working as hard as I can and go into the summer in the best possible form."
