City dispatches Liverpool

Manchester, England (Sports Network) - Carlos Tevez scored two second-half goals as Manchester City recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Liverpool at Eastlands on Monday.

Gareth Barry put City in front in the 13th minute, and Tevez added a second goal in the 52nd minute before he converted a penalty kick 15 minutes later to put the result out of reach.

City's Adam Johnson was one of the best players on the field on Monday, and he came close to giving the hosts the lead in the eighth minute with a left- footed shot that whistled past the post.

Johnson was involved again five minutes later as he slipped a pass into the penalty area for James Milner on the right. The former Aston Villa man then pulled the ball back to Barry near the penalty spot and he redirected it first-time inside the left post.

The lead was doubled in the 52nd minute from a corner kick as Micah Richards headed the ball toward the net, and Tevez got just enough of it to deflect it through the legs of goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Liverpool tried to cut the deficit in half in the 57th minute, but Steven Gerrard hit the post and both David Ngog and Fernando Torres had rebound attempts saved by City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

All three points were then secured 10 minutes later as Johnson was tripped inside the area by Liverpool's Martin Skrtel, allowing Tevez to send Reina the wrong way from the penalty spot.
