Redknapp named QPR manager
London, England (Sports Network) - QPR wasted little time finding a replacement for Mark Hughes as the Premier League club named Harry Redknapp as its new manager on Saturday.
Hughes was sacked on Friday after a string of poor results to start the season. Redknapp was pegged as the favorite to take over at Loftus Road, and the move was made official Saturday morning ahead of the club's match at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
"I'm delighted to be back in the managerial hot-seat at QPR," Redknapp said in a statement. "When I spoke to the shareholders and they told me about their plans I knew this was too good an opportunity to turn down.
"There's no doubt there's a lot of ability in the squad, but for one reason or another things haven't gone as well as everyone expected since the start of the season. I can't wait to get to work and get the results necessary to kick- start our season."
Redknapp, who left Tottenham at the end of last season, takes over a QPR side that sits bottom of the Premier League on just four points. He will watch the club's match against United from the stands and will assume coaching responsibilities on Sunday.
