Klinsmann says Morris' USMNT snub came down to Wondolowski's form

United States national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann announced his 23-man team on Saturday, and while a number of familiar faces made the cut, one standout youngster did not.

Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris was left out of the final roster despite scoring four goals in as many consecutive games in recent weeks. San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski was named in his stead.

The two players have rather different playing styles, with Wondolowski more of a target forward and Morris much more mobile up top, but Klinsmann says his decision came down to form rather than function.

"There are always some 50-50 moments, if it's in the back line, if it's in midfield, if it's up front ... and it came a little bit down to Wondo or Jordan," Klinsmann explained, according to MLSsoccer.com.

"We decided in this moment right now to go with Wondo. He's in top form. He's scoring a lot of goals for the Earthquakes. But always, when you take certain players in one area, you have to leave other ones out."

For what it's worth, Wondolowski has seven goals in 11 matches for San Jose this season, the kind of numbers that ultimately left Morris out of the final 23-man roster.
