Sergio Aguero hopes Manchester City manages to steer clear of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in Friday's Champions League quarter-final draw.

City's underwhelming 0-0 home draw to Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday was enough to secure progression in the tournament courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate scoreline, and marks the furthest the club has reached in the competition in its history.

"You always want to go far, and to do that you have to face the best," said Aguero, who has 16 goals in his last 18 Champions League outings.

"Obviously Barca and Bayern are there, who are the two best by form, and obviously if we can avoid them all the better, but at some point we will have to face them."

The Spanish and German giants are expected to confirm their paths into the last-eight on Wednesday. Barcelona welcomes Arsenal to the Camp Nou with a 2-0 advantage, while Bayern is favourite to overcome Juventus at the Allianz Arena following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

City has already claimed the League Cup this season in what is Manuel Pellegrini's last season in charge. Pep Guardiola is set to take over this summer, and the players have been subject to heavy criticism since the announcement of his arrival in February, with an FA Cup run and Premier League title bid subsequently slipping away.

"We are all here for this, to fight at the top and we are happy to get through," Aguero said. "The thing is for the last two years we have had to play against Barcelona and they are a very tough opponent, they are always favourites to win the Champions League. It’s difficult but we are happy to fulfill our goals."

Aguero has discussed Guardiola with compatriot Lionel Messi, who is a good friend of El Kun and played under the Spaniard at Barcelona. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner provided a glowing reference on the manager, but for now Aguero stresses that the aim is to "finish the season in the best way possible," and then consider what's to come in the 2016-17 campaign.

The Argentinian is expected to start in City's visit of arch-rival Manchester United on Sunday.
