Zenit denies making approach for Carlo Ancelotti

Zenit St Petersburg has denied making a lucrative offer for Carlo Ancelotti to succeed Andre Villas-Boas at the end of the season.

Villas-Boas has already declared his intention to step down at the end of the campaign, and reports in Russia suggested the former Real Madrid boss had agreed to an offer of €16 million a year - a manager's salary that would be second only to Jose Mourinho's at Chelsea.

"All talks about Ancelotti agreeing to coach Zenit have nothing to do with reality," a Zenit spokesperson told Russian news agency TASS, according to ESPN FC. "The club doesn't have any negotiations with the Italian coach."

Ancelotti has been out of a job since he was sacked by Los Blancos in May, and is one of the most sought-after managers in world football. Bayern Munich is also linked with the 56-year-old should Pep Guardiola opt to leave at the close of the current campaign.
