Atletico Madrid maintains top spot in Group C despite dull tie with Astana
Atletico Madrid extended its unbeaten run in the Champions League with a scoreless draw with Astana on Tuesday.
The Spanish side, which temporarily maintained its place atop Group C, will be thoroughly disappointed after it dominated the Kazakhstan outfit by controlling the battle for possession, but failed to find the back of the net after producing over a dozen chances.
Fernando Torres looked destined to score his 100th goal with Atletico Madrid until his close-range effort with the outside of his boot narrowly missed the net. It was one of a few moments that peaked the interest of supporters in an otherwise dull affair.
The result gave Atletico five points through four games. However, FC Porto could take over top spot in the group if it takes all three points from an encounter against Galatasaray later in the day.
