With Wednesday's pivotal Group A Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon, Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez has several fitness concerns prior to the trip to Parc des Princes.

News of captain Sergio Ramos' potential return could lift Benitez's spirits despite a slew of injuries to a half dozen other players, one of which is Gareth Bale, who continues to nurse a calf issue suffered during a Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Questions surround Bale's fitness in light of news that he has missed training, despite a tweet from the Welsh international suggesting he's aiming to play Wednesday.

A statement from Real Madrid's website suggests otherwise, stating, "Following the tests carried out on Gareth Bale in the Sanitas la Moraleja University Hospital, the player has been diagnosed with a soleus muscle injury in his left leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed."

Benitez is also hoping for a return from diminutive midfield maestro Luka Modric and star striker Karim Benzema, both of whom missed Saturday's 3-0 victory over Levante at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Defenders Danilo and Pepe will also face a last-minute fitness test to determine their chances of playing Wednesday, while James Rodriguez and Dani Carvajal are sidelined with long-term injuries.
