Muller nets brace, Bayern Munich makes short work of Olympiacos

Bayern Munich took its sweet time to get going, but the mighty German engine chugged along as ever, beating Olympiacos 3-0 in Athens to open up its Group F campaign in the Champions League.

A pair of Thomas Muller goals in the second half, sandwiched around a Mario Gotze strike, gave Bayern all three points as Olympiacos battled to keep the Bavarians off the score sheet over 90 minutes.

The match itself started in controversy as Greek police and German supporters clashed in the stands. On the field, the first half was relatively dull, but the game picked up in the 52nd minute as Muller struck with a goal that was, perhaps, not quite as deliberate as he will surely tell his friends it was after the fact.

The German forward sent a cross into the box looking for Robert Lewandowski, but the ball managed to sail over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net instead. Muller celebrated with a cheeky smile, giving Bayern a 1-0 lead.

Gotze added to Bayern's lead with two minutes to go. Kingsley Coman sent a low cross into Gotze in the box, and the young German midfielder controlled and turned a defender, then shot and scored on an angle to make it 2-0.

Coman then drew a penalty a few minutes later, which Muller buried home with ease to give Bayern a 3-0 win.
