Journalists from each of UEFA's 54 member nations have nominated a shortlist of 10 players for the annual award to honor Europe's best player.

Last season's Champions League finalists, Juventus and Barcelona, dominate the nominees, with eight of the 10 finalists among the two sides.

A second vote by the members will narrow the list down to the final three on Aug. 12, with the winner announced during the group stage, Aug. 28, in Monaco.

Past winners include Messi (2011), Andres Iniesta (2012), Franck Ribery (2013), and Ronaldo (2014).
