PSG rallies to top Marseille

Marseille, France - Paris Saint-Germain secured a valuable three points on Sunday at the Stade Velodrome by scoring twice in the second half for a 3-2 comeback win over rivals Marseille.

PSG entered the contest two points back of Lyon, which won 3-1 over Guingamp on Saturday to move to the top of Ligue 1.

But a pair of first-half goals from Marseille's Andre-Pierre Gignac left PSG down 2-1 at halftime as the capital side managed a goal from Blaise Matuidi.

Marquinhos equalized for PSG in the 49th, and only two minutes later, the visitors got the winning goal through Jeremy Morel's own goal.

The result moves PSG back to the summit, one point clear of Lyon, while Marseille falls five points off the pace with seven matches to play.

Gignac got Marseille started on the half-hour mark when he rose up above his defender to head home Dimitri Payet's cross from eight yards.

However, PSG replied within five minutes on a nice strike from Matuidi, who took a pass from Thiago Motta, cut back past a defender and curled a shot nicely inside the right post from just outside the penalty area.

Gignac was a handful for PSG in the first half, and he found the net again a few minutes before the break after a turnover from PSG's Marco Verratti allowed Jacques-Alaixys Romao to play Gignac into the penalty area, where he slotted his shot past goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

A set piece helped PSG level the contest in the 49th minute when a low delivery from Zlatan Ibrahimovic was blocked, leaving an easy rebound for Marquinhos to hammer home.

And only two minutes later PSG took the lead when a low ball to the front of goal intended Ibrahimovic was redirected into his own net by Morel.

Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda made two saves on Ibrahimovic at close range to keep his side within a goal, but the hosts couldn't manage an equalizer and they fall a bit further out of the title picture.

Also on Sunday, Lens remained on the bottom of the table after losing 2-1 at Bordeaux to a goal from Nicolas Maurice-Belay in stoppage time, while Caen edged Nantes, 2-1, with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes.
