Schalke could see it on the horizon.
A pair of goals in the opening half at the Santiago Bernabeu had the German club dreaming of the impossible: overturning the 2-0 deficit from the opening leg of their Champions League tie against Real Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a killer of such dreams.
Schalke took the lead on two separate occasions, thanks in part to some sub-par (read: awful) goalkeeping from Iker Casillas.
Ronaldo brought the Spanish side level on each occasion.
He got onto the end of a corner from Toni Kroos to score his first of the contest:
He then proceeded to find himself wide open inside the penalty area to knot the game at two later in the half:
Note to Schalke: Ronaldo has scored 75 goals in his Champions League career, tied for most all-time with Lionel Messi. Maybe try covering him. Just a thought.
