Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus expected to be out until January with ankle injury

Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines. Once again, it's an ankle injury that has felled the winger.

The German international was stretchered off the pitch during Saturday's 2-2 draw against Paderborn after he was on the receiving end of an awful challenge from midfielder Marvin Bakalorz. The club revealed today that their star attacker will be out of action until January with torn tearing ligaments in his right ankle.

The injury is Reus' sixth ankle problem in the last year.

After the match, an incensed Jurgen Klopp made his frustrations known with Bakalorz, whom he coached during the midfielder's time at Dortmund.

"There are situations where he makes sliding tackles without any control whatsoever. I used to tell him that he shouldn't do that. Marvin is a great lad, but that was just too much," he said.

Reus, who missed this summer's World Cup with a separate ankle ligament problem, is expected to return to training at some point in January. 

For a Dortmund club still languishing in 15th place in the Bundesliga table, losing a player of Reus' quality - who has five goals and three assists in just nine appearances in all competitions this season - could prove to be the blow that condemns their season for good.

Despite the shocking start to the campaign, there was always hope that with Reus returning to form and others returning from injury, Klopp would find a way to turn things around eventually. Now that optimism is slowly slipping away.
