Loic Remy's hopes are high a day after suffering a groin injury during Chelsea's Champions League win over Maribor.

The French striker is optimistic the injury isn't as serious as manager Jose Mourinho indicated Tuesday following the match when he expressed his doubts about Remy's fitness for Chelsea's next match against Manchester United on the weekend.

A medical scan is still needed to determine the severity of the injury.

"I really hope it is not too bad," Remy told the media following the match, courtesy of ESPNFC. "Fortunately I stopped playing because I felt something. I don't think it is too bad but I felt something. My groin.

"Yes, it's frustrating of course because I had a chance to play because (Diego) Costa is injured but I am not afraid. I don't think it is really bad. We will check and I really hope to play again this weekend.

"It is a huge game but every game is tough. Especially this one because it is a big game against a good opponent, but I will try to recover as quickly as possible."

It appeared as though Remy initially suffered the injury during his opening goal when he was seen grimacing as teammates surrounded him to celebrate. Following the game, however, he revealed the injury had been bothering him before he scored.

"No, before that, it was a bit stiff, even my run and I didn't feel very comfortable," he said. "That's why I prefer to come off but for me I have to care about myself, and if I'm not feeling very good it's better to leave for another player who is 100 percent."

The opportunity to start on a regular basis with Diego Costa out with an injury may have inspired Remy to play through his groin discomfort. Now it looks more likely that veteran striker Didier Drogba will get the start Saturday if scans don't show the desired results.
