Report: Arsenal's David Ospina to miss 3 months with thigh injury

Reuters

More bad news on the injury front for Arsenal, because manager Arsene Wenger just doesn't have enough of that to deal with already.

The thigh injury to Ospina, who was signed by the Gunners this summer from Nice, means that 22-year-old Emiliano Martinez will make his Champions League debut on Wednesday against Anderlecht. Regular starter Wojciech Szczesny will miss the match through suspension.

Speaking with the club's official website, Wenger elaborated on the injury:

It is exactly the same one [as from the World Cup]. He had his first injury at Nice - it was a knee problem and he was a bit rushed back and did not use his leg, so his muscle became weaker. Then he got injured in the World Cup. After that, he came to us injured after the World Cup and it took him two months to play again. I had to bring him on against Galatasaray without a warm up and being prepared, so he had a recurrence of that injury. It means he is out for two to three months, now we have to be really careful because it is a recurrence of a thigh injury, which is very difficult. It is a long-term injury.

It just never stops for Arsenal, who are already without the likes of Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, Mathieu Debuchy and Mikel Arteta, and are still awaiting Theo Walcott to achieve full fitness as he works towards a return from knee surgery.
