When Manchester City and Monaco were paired together in the Round of 16 of this season's Champions League, neutrals were salivating at the prospect of a breakneck, end-to-end tie that would see a plethora of goals.

Tuesday's first-leg contest delivered, and then some.

The two sides, deadly going forward but both looking hilariously vulnerable at the back on this night at the Etihad Stadium, combined for eight tallies, the Citizens getting late goals from John Stones and Leroy Sane to claim a manic 5-3 victory.

The match will go down as one of the most exciting in tournament history, and now holds the record as the highest-scoring first-leg encounter the competition has ever seen.
