Report: Atletico's Juanfran expected to miss 2-3 weeks with hamstring knock

SERGIO PEREZ / Reuters

Atletico Madrid has received another injury blow with news that Juanfran suffered a hamstring knock.

Juanfran, who joins injured Diego Godin in the Atletico treatment room, is expected to miss up to three weeks because of the injury, according to Marca's Alberto R. Barbero.

That time frame will force him to miss Los Rojiblancos' Round of 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League next week, as well as a league match against Barcelona.

The 32-year-old suffered the injury during Atletico's 3-2 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday.

An MRI carried out Monday revealed that Juanfran suffered a "grade I-II muscle injury in his right thigh."

Sime Vrsaljko, who joined Atletico from Italian side Sassuolo last summer, is expected to deputise at right-back until Juanfran regains fitness

Last week, the Spanish side announced that Godin will miss up to two weeks after picking up a right thigh injury.

Atletico occupies the last Champions League place in the standings after accumulating 42 points through 22 matches.
