Real Madrid president denies claim Chinese team offered €300M for Ronaldo

Real Madrid's president and Cristiano Ronaldo's agent obviously aren't on the same page.

Amid the flurry of players to ditch Europe for the riches that await in China, Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, claimed that a €300 million offer had been tabled by an unknown Chinese Super League team in an effort to lure the Portuguese star away from Madrid.

Real president Florentino Perez, however, denied Mendes's claim, saying the Spanish side has not received an offer for Ronaldo - who was awarded the Best FIFA Men's Player of 2016 honour Monday.

"It is possible (something happened) as there have been many people interested over these years in signing Cristiano Ronaldo," Perez said in an interview with Spanish radio show "El Transistor", as translated by Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC.

"But Madrid have received no such offer. Sometimes it can happen that people talk on the margins, away from the club."

Along with the massive sum the Chinese team was allegedly prepared to pay, Mendes also claimed that his client was offered a contract that would have paid him €100 million a year.

Mendes' remarks were published on the same day that Argentine forward Carlos Tevez secured a move to Chinese Super League team Shanghai Shenhua in a deal that will reportedly make him one of the top earners in football.
