Move over, Ajax.

Welsh Premier League champion The New Saints etched its name in football lore Friday, winning a world-record 27th consecutive match to knock the Dutch club off its perch.

Johan Cruyff had guided the Amsterdam outfit to 26 straight victories in 1971-72, a run that spanned 19 league matches, four European Cup ties, and three domestic cup fixtures.

But The New Saints established a new top-flight benchmark courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Cefn Druids.

Brazilian club Coritiba challenged Ajax's throne in 2011 after claiming 24 straight matches, while Real Madrid won 22 times on the trot during the 2014-15 campaign.

Hereford FC, in the English ninth tier, and East Kilbride, of the Scottish fifth tier, had surpassed all attempts with 27 and 30 wins, respectively, earlier this year.

But Hereford and Kilbride's feats weren't recognised because they didn't achieve them in a top division.

TNS, however, has enjoyed a long reign in Wales. Winner of back-to-back Welsh trebles, it is now 21 points clear at the top of the table.

The streak includes 21 league victories and six in cup competitions.
