Claudio Bravo: Crushing Barca loss was my fault

Claudio Bravo says he must shoulder a significant portion of the blame for Manchester City's humiliating 4-0 defeat at Barcelona on Wednesday.

City was unlucky to be one goal down before Bravo was central to an event which was ruinous to his new side. The goalkeeper rushed out of his box to meet the ball, then inexplicably conceded possession to Luis Suarez. The Chilean swatted at the resulting lob some 5 yards outside his area.

Following the resulting dismissal for a deliberate handball, City surrendered three more goals in a harrowing loss at manager Pep Guardiola's old stomping ground.

"It changed the course of the game - we were playing very well, creating opportunities and it is what it is, football is like that," Bravo, who joined City from Barcelona in the summer, told ESPN FC's Jonathan Smith.

"It is a game of mistakes and correct decisions. it's just bad luck that I was the person that changed the course of the game. But it's like that. We must keep working hard and look at the next games."

Lionel Messi's first strike of his hat trick in the opening stanza capitalised on an unfortunate slip from Fernandinho, but if it wasn't for Barca shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen's exploits between the sticks, City could've been ahead by the time Bravo made his gaffe.

It continues a questionable start to Bravo's days at City, which began with the 33-year-old flapping the ball into the path of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in September's Manchester derby.

"They have a team that is very difficult but we were playing well, we were comfortable, especially in the first half," Bravo continued.

"And it was clear that the game changed after the sending off."

Bravo will now miss the reverse fixture between the clubs in two weeks' time, along with Barca's Jeremy Mathieu after his dismissal later in the tilt for two yellow cards.

In five competitive outings between these two sides, City has had four players sent off.
