Davy Klaassen is Ajax's captain for a reason.

Klaassen scored twice on Wednesday in the second leg of the tie between Ajax and PAOK in the Champions League's third qualifying round, punching the Dutch club's ticket to the tournament's play-offs.

The fixture looked set for extra time until the 87th minute, when Klaassen, who had already converted a penalty kick in first-half stoppage time, rocketed a right-footed shot past a motionless Panagiotis Glykos and broke the hearts of PAOK supporters.

Ajax, four-time champion of the European Cup and Champions League, is involved in the league route and is a seeded team, meaning Peter Bosz's side will be drawn against one of AS Roma, Steaua Bucuresti, AS Monaco, BSC Young Boys, or Rostov in the play-offs.

The play-off draw is scheduled for Friday and will take place at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
