Juventus reportedly has a contingency plan in place should Paul Pogba leave for Manchester United, as it readies to battle Everton for the signature of Newcastle United's Moussa Sissoko, according to The Guardian's Andy Hunter.

The French midfielder is apparently valued at £35 million, and his potential departure could mark a midfield exodus from the Magpies as Liverpool strives to complete a £25-million transfer for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Sissoko, 26, followed a rather languid-looking campaign for Newcastle with impressive showings during his homeland's run to the Euro 2016 final this summer. He announced his intention to leave Tyneside shortly after the tournament, and the lofty price tag slapped on the former Toulouse player's head won't deter Juventus.

Although Everton's preseason targets are significantly more modest than the Old Lady's, the Merseyside outfit is the beneficiary of increased wealth through new majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and the lucrative, fresh Premier League television deal. There is also increased optimism under recently appointed gaffer Ronald Koeman.

The Goodison Park boardroom is due to meet Thursday to discuss potential pricey acquisitions to make in the summer transfer window. To aid with the wholesale changes expected by the Toffees, Steve Walsh, the man credited with tempting the likes of Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante to Leicester City, could be joining as sporting director.

Whether a new-look Everton can trump a club of Juventus' stature, however, remains to be seen.
