Celtic progresses to Champions League's 3rd qualifying round

Much better, Brendan Rodgers.

After Celtic was humiliated in the first leg of its tie against Lincoln Red Imps in the Champions League's second qualifying round, the Hoops salvaged their dignity on Wednesday, defeating the club from Gibraltar 3-0 in the second leg for a 3-1 victory on aggregate.

Pairing Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele in front of goal, Celtic swarmed Lincoln from the moment the fixture kicked off and was rewarded in the 23rd minute, when Mikael Lustig turned the ball past Raul Navas. Only two minutes later, Rodgers' side breathed a deep sigh of relief as Griffiths scored from 18 yards out. Patrick Roberts then added a third goal moments later after playing a beautiful one-two with Callum McGregor.

Although Celtic didn't score after the opening half-hour, the Hoops did enough to avoid being eliminated at the hands of a club that Mick McElwee, Lincoln's manager, describes as "semi-professional." When the club of part-timers beat the Hoops 1-0 in the first leg, which marked Rodgers' debut as the Scottish club's manager, the goal was scored by Lee Casciaro, a police officer.

Lincoln first played in the Champions League two years ago after Gibraltar became a member of UEFA. The club travelled to Scotland with dreams of producing a historic shock but will merely be the answer to a trivia question after its defeat at Celtic Park.

Here are the other results from Wednesday's Champions League matches:

Astana 2-1 Zalgiris (2-1 on aggregate)

Dudelange 1-1 Qarabag (1-3 on aggregate)
