Cristiano Ronaldo knew the outcome before he even stepped to the penalty spot.

The Real Madrid megastar scored the decisive penalty in Saturday's Champions League final, pushing Los Blancos to a second crown in three years - and 11th European Cup in club history - with an emphatic strike into the bottom right corner past Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

After the contest, which finished 1-1 through extra time before a 5-3 shootout win for Real, an overjoyed Ronaldo described the title-winning moment.

"The penalties are always a lottery, you never know what will happen but our team showed more experience and we showed it by scoring all the penalties," he told BT Sport, via ESPN FC. "A fantastic night for us. It is the end of the season and people are not fit, we have to rest and we have to go for the Euros."

The Portuguese added, in an interview with AS, that he foresaw himself handling the pressure-packed penalty.

"I had a vision. I knew I was going to score the winning goal," he said. "I asked (Zinedine Zidane) to let me take the fifth penalty because I was going to score the winning goal.

"Zidane has done a phenomenal job. He deserves it, he has humility and I'm happy for him. Ballon d'Or? Winning the Champions League was first and to be the top scorer. It's the seventh year I've scored more than 50 goals, for the first time in history."
